French with a twist
Full Bar
Downtown San Francisco empties into a ghost town at 7pm, so
it's amazing that any restaurant could survive the dinner hours.
Boulevard not only survives, it's always packed, not to mention
that it's consistenly rated one of the best restaurants in the
city.
The Ambience:
Famed restaurant designer Pat Kuleto has created an elegant
yet casual energy within the restaurant's walls. Dark wood and
brick, an open kitchen, high-end silverware, a view of the Bay
(towards the back) and a dimly lit, welcoming art nouveau feel.
The Menu:
It often changes, but it's always inventive. Foie gras, cassoulet,
rissotto, fresh bay shrimp remoulade, French black truffles
and other fresh delicacies. Lunch $14-$20, dinner $22-$35.
The Food:
Brilliant. The creative pairings melt in your mouth. I doubt
you could go wrong with anything here; it's more likely you'll
taste something new and be pleasantly surprised.
The Service:
Extremely professional and friendly. They're always very busy,
it seems, so it might take a while to get their attention, but
for me it's never reached the point of neglect.
Reservations: Absolutely,
weeks in advance.
Overall: A
Well worth the trip downtown.
