Italian trattoria
Beer and wine only
Walking into Delle Stelle is like stepping into an old-world
Italian Bistro. You'll be whisked off to a table and will receive
a pitcher of mineral water and homemade bread with tomato basil
spread just for sitting down. The rest of the meal will be just
as smooth.
The Ambience:
Delle Stelle just feels happy. I can't quite explain why they're
often playing the French cabaret music of Edith Piaf, and yet,
how could I complain about Edith Piaf? It's well lit and bustling,
but I've never felt rushed or unwelcome. Sometimes a little
loud, but for me, that's just the energy of it.
The Menu:
Weekly wine specials and nightly dinner specials. Moderate prices
with appetizers $4-$6.50, pastas $8-$9 and secondi piatti $9-$11.
The Food:
Not extraordinary, but tasty, consistent and cheap. Hearty portions.
Great nightly specials, fried calamari and pastas.
The Service:
DO NOT GO on a symphony/opera night before 8pm (usually Wednesday).
You might get seated, but unless you're opera rush, you won't
get a waiter. I did, in fact, walk out after watching our waiter
close out the rush of tables for half an hour. And it broke
my heart.
Usually, however, the waiters are attentive, personable and
great story tellers.
Reservations: Not usually
necessary.
Overall: B+
Great atmosphere, service and price. Decent food.
